Ari Weissfeld
Art Experience
The experience occurred when I was visiting D.C. in the summer going into 7th grade. My parents dragged me to the Newseum to provide entertainment for the day. Surprisingly, I was enamored with the monumental history on display. Parts of the Berlin Wall, 9/11 artifacts, and space memorabilia fascinated me. However, the photography room was the most impact full. Hundreds of photographs engulfed me from every angle. The combination of the photos and the display showed me how meaningful art can be. While examining the photos one stood out and really impacted me. A photo of a malnourished African baby with a vulture waiting for the baby to die. The photograph represented a tragic piece of art that moved me that no other piece of art has.
Ari this is very nice. It seems that you might have an interest in abstract or historical art. Have you gone back for a second visit recently? Sometimes seeing the same art twice enhances your understanding of it.
ReplyDeleteI've seen this picture too and it made an impact on me. It got me to think about some of the bad things that go in our world regardless of if it effects me or not.
ReplyDeletei also went to the newseum, but i was not ¨dragged¨ there. I went on a field trip so it was good because i was not in school.

ReplyDeleteDO you think the photographer should have dropped the camera and protected the baby from the bigbird?? Like is Art a good enough reason for a baby to get snatched up?
ReplyDeleteWell, after reading your post, I feel like I need to drag my 2 boys to the Newseum since we've never been. How's that for irony?
ReplyDeleteI would like a little more elaboration from you. Remember, this was to be a 4 paragraph post. (see my original).
The newseum does have very interesting pieces. I like the way you describe the photographs engulfing you from every angle
ReplyDeleteThis museum is great, it truly has some masterpieces. This work of art you describe is very strong and it represents how life really is, everyone is waiting for you to fail so they can take whats left.
